Web 2.0, Cloud Computing, Agile Development-All these buzz words to throw at you when you walk into the world of computing/IT/technology. I know ^^ a bit overwhelming.

I recenlty took my gf, who comes from a more traditional based industry of jewlry import/export, to attend the Web 2.0 Expo ’09 at SF.  As you can imagine, it’s like escort a foreign government official visiting our country for the first time-pretty much translating all these buzz words & explain what they really mean to her.

Understandbly, she ask some of the questions that everyday people would ask-“What really is Web 2.0?’, “How did we change from Web 1.0 to 2.0? What’s the add-on improvement?”, “Will there be a Web 3.0? & What’s that gonna be like?”  By that time, I wish I can just flip out my iphone & have her read the Wikipedia on my iphone and tell her-google itwiki all about it. (I’m sure only IT geeks/mechanic will know how that feeling, people asking for free info. without really gonna make the effort to register what it really meants. sorry, honey.)  But, truly, forgive my ‘sqaured’ IT peers for a second, Web 2.0 simly really means from the traditional web 1.0 (Internet Technology-dialup modem, mosaic web browser) in the early 90s of government, school, companies that tells people about each of their entities what they do, where they’re (info. based), we’ve gone a step beyond that.  We’ve went from having the traditional web 1.0 website to now web 2.0 web ‘application’. Now, I hope that helps half of her question-The add-on improvement from web 1.0 to web 2.0 was we, as human kinds, improve our web technology to be a page that your local computer link up to see for government, school, companies’ info. to now the pages become a series of useful info. holder, and more so, they can work & do some special task for you (e.g. pay your online bill, routes from one place to another, etc. etc.)

What else? what about Facebook? I ran into the same guy at the mechnic shop for the same question, except this time is my brother who ask me the question-“What’s Web 2.0??? Why Facebook is being classified as Web 2.0 companies?”  Well, I’m like that mechanic again, trying to politely come up with the best analogy to get the point across.  Facebook is being classified as Web 2.0 company because it’s an online application-you can social netowrk with your friends & contacts.  In addition, yes, this is more the business minds know, they turn around use those user base, user info. they gather to turn around sell the user base as a marketing data to other companies who interested.  That’s all. That’s all there’s to it.

Now, “what’s gonna be Web 3.0? how’s that gonna be?” I wish I really can say/pretend I know as much as I know how that’s gonna like, honey, because if I do, I’m really the next guy calling the shots.  Now, what triggers me here with this blog is really how simple some of the buzz words that the techie guys create but still yet seems to create a big myth behind it for everyday people-maybe from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 we really gone through Web 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.84H, 1.96G, “where have I been? did I miss something?” er… life of everyday moron, what can I say. “again sorry honey & my dear bro.”  Seriously, what really trigger me with this blog is the words like Web 2.0, Cloud Computing, Agile, you walk in to an expo like Web 2.0 SF ’09, you have companies like salesf** throwing each of those words to you of the 40 some years old sales-telling the same kind of lie-“our laptop demo is down”, we can’t really show you anything we’ve developed for cloud computing, but if you like here’s our bourchure, please send us some money for the free pamplet we’re giving you here if we’ve impress you that much” Er… …I feel like pulling out the iphone & have the guy google the words he’s selling for his own sake again.

Now, Enterprise 2.0, another buzz words that jointly created by IT & marketing folks, but I think it’s not bad of an idea, I like to use that ligo from time to time.  From what the event organizer,,

Enterprise 2.0 is the term for the technologies and business practices that liberate the workforce from the constraints of legacy communication and productivity tools like email. It provides business managers with access to the right information at the right time through a web of inter-connected applications, services and devices. Enterprise 2.0 makes accessible the collective intelligence of many, translating to a huge competitive advantage in the form of increased innovation, productivity and agility.
